So most of you agree its o.k., now what are you going to do with all of the nuclear waste?Would agree to put one in your town.
I’ve lived all my life within 50 miles of TMI… even during the scare in 1979… and I don’t fear it at all. However, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere near the waste dump. And apparently, neither would McCain, who opposed nuclear waste being transported through Arizona from California on its way to Yucca Mountain, even though he has always supported Yucca Mountain, despite the fact that he recently changed that stance. (confused?)

We can put them all in Alabama, and I’d be happy.

I don’t mind. The chances of the reactor failing and spewing radiation is very slim. I’m much more likely to be poisoned via the water supply from any one of the numerous industries already in my city.

We already have one about 50 miles from here. It’s been running fine since the 60’s. I don’t care.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? READ ABOUT CHERNOBYL IN RUSSIA. FIFTY MILES IS IN GROUND ZERO WHEREIN YOU DIE RATHER QUICKLY AND PAINFULLY. THE GREATEST THREAT IS THE LINGERING THREAT. WHAT ARE THE HALF-LIFES OF ITS COMPONENTS.

Nobody wants them in their vicinity. Except the McCain puppets. I’d like to see a Nuc Plant being build next to McCain’s estate.

I have a rail road that carries every conceivable deadly chemical through my town night and day without much fuss. Go ahead and give me cheap power, I’ll take my chances.

I live out in toolies as they call it, so out here would probably be a logical place for one, they have to go somewhere. Since the dems want the wind power but no windmills in their backyard I wonder where we should put those,

Good question.
I certainly don’t want one unless it’s highly regulated by government.

Like the last guy, I live next the railroad tracks. Cars full of chlorine, pesticide, you name it, go through there every day, at about forty miles an hour I guess.
There’s a nuke plant about eighty or a hundred miles from here as well. I worry less about that.

have one don’t sweat it much now , but i will be listening to the radio and checking wind direction when the big one hits between san diego and l.a, california.
i want solar panels . wind generators for electricity and desalinization plants for water . but it makes too much sense to be out of water next to an ocean, with almost unlimited sunshine, and ocean breeze’s

I have one less than 30 miles away Clinton Il. Then one around 130 miles away Braidwood IL and one around 170 miles, near Zion IL.
Illinois has more nuclear power plants than any other state in the nation. 10 functioning right now out of 13 reactors!

Right now, in Illinois, we have a nuclear power plant, not more than 50 miles away, in cordova, and we live right next to the ri arsenal…don’t worry about it…people joke about it around here, but, really not that many people complain….

I’ll take one! It’s about time we get our energy from the safest, cleanest most efficient source. (Solar/wind is NOT a viable substitute for coal and oil at this point).

I served 6 years on nuclear subs, my bunk was within feet of the reactor, the towns I lived in had as many as 30 reactors in them at one time, yet nobody was injured and we submariners have been found to have a lower cancer rate than the public (less exposure to the sun was the reason, believe it or not), many of my shipmates had several healthy children who grew up to be pretty typical kids. So based on personal experience, not some scare tactics from some uninformed group, I’d say I would.

I believe some of the people who answer these questions are the dumbest people in the world, because there is so much technology in the United States that if a new Nuclear Power Plant was created there would be so many secondary, and backup plans in place to prevent total catastrophe. If Nuclear Plants were put in the US we could remove all the plants in the US that are so called destructive to our environment. I mean every body needs to understand its either destructive to the environment or a slim possibility of meltdown. Plus the power it could create for us is enormous. What the hell why not!!! and just so you know CHERNOBYL IN RUSSIA was how long ago and look at the country it was in. The USSR was so far advanced wasn’t it. I bet they followed all the right procedures and followed all the safety codes while doing an experiment in shutdown of there 4th reactor huh.

Let’s see – NO Acid Rain, No Hydrogen Sulfate, No Stink, Abundant Cheap Reliable Energy — as opposed to freezing to death in the dark, choking on smog?
Send the heavy radioactive stuff to as near the center of the earth as we can dig – in a geologically stable part of the earth. It will be a long time for erosion to expose it.

Well, if the USA was smart like our European colleagues, or even Japan, then we would reprocess the fuel rods creating low level waste. We’re so behind in the times its not even funny.
We could open Yucca mountain, which would serve as the fuel rod repository. Put them all underground or keep the rods stored on site. What do YOU think is safer?
