I’m not aloud to say which one I prefer because as much as I love Cat Power, I absolutely revere Billie Holiday and her voice is just as unique as Chan’s. But Billie has that 1930’s and 1940’s jazz and racial pain of the struggle in it. If I had to choose, I’m going with Billie. FYI I’m choosing at the request of the poster of this song.

I heard this song …
I heard this song covered by Amy Winehouse in a jazz CD, sadly couldn’t find it anywhere on the Internet, yet.
But Amy provides the song with such emotion, it’s simply perfect.. I still haven’t heard a version of this song I could compare to that one.
Highly Highly recommended.

It’s a similar text, but it’s not quite the same. I think both songs are different and perfect in their own way. Both artists and songs are amazing! we really shouldn’t compare them.Just enjoy it

I don’t think she was trying to compare to Billie Holiday when she covered the song… I think she was just trying to show her appreciation in the best way possible… I know when I decide to cover a song it’s usually because I love it in a very strong way and want to show my appreciation. That’s just my take on it.

and she really succeed in making a contemporary song of it
Billie wrote herself this song more than 50 years ago (actually she wrote 2 or 3 songs but recorded 1000ds) and made a big hit
